A gilt metal and Mother-of-Pearl
baby brooch dating to the 1920's. Not what I would call a particularly
"fine antique", I've sold many antique "Baby" brooches over the years in
both gold and silver; some inset with semi-precious stones, so why
would I add this one to my blog? The "Baby Brooch" was originally
intended to hold a baby's bib in place, however those who buy them
today, usually buy them as christening shawl pins; a much nicer (I think), gift
idea than the boring silver plated money boxes that every new born child
seems to acquire these days.
This
relatively cheep gilt metal baby brooch is NOT for sale , I bought this
for my own granddaughter's christening. So why is a seller of fine
antique brooches buying his granddaughter a cheep gilt metal
brooch?....the clue is in the Mother-of-Pearl. You see, my granddaughter is a "Baby Pearl"; a 6th generation "Pearly", who will be
christened next month a "Pearly Princess", in St.Martin-in-the-Fields
church in Trafalgar Square, attended by many of the Pearly Kings and Queens
of London.
So if you're in the area on Sunday October 7th, why not pop by and cheer the newest Pearly Princess; my beautiful granddaughter, D'anna-Mae; seen here in the arms of her doting grandmother.http://www.eastlondonadvertiser.co.uk/news/pearly_babe_d_anna_mae_has_cockney_debut_in_east_end_boozer_at_3_weeks_1_1473583
Update. A great day.
The beautiful "Pearly Princess of Stratford".
